Almost anyone can walk around a house and tell you about the way the home was built. Some comments may be valid and justified by the prevailing building codes or life safety standards and some just may be pure speculative opinion. Like your uncle may have said “I would never do it that way!” Your home inspector should be the tool used to determine what is proper and what is just a different way of doing things. The Professional Inspector must be able to provide a valid opinion of the condition of the property. A good inspector is a consultant for life. Find one that has the experience, knowledge, and certified credentials to back up the opinion he expresses. All Texas Inspectors must follow the minimum standards as established by the Real Estate Commission. The standards will cover every aspect of the property with the exception of sidewalks, driveways, security systems and entertainment systems.
